Chase Project

Today, I’m sharing a living room from one of my latest design projects! Finalized with  a mix of warm and cool tones, timeless textures and a modern-transitional edged style. This project quickly became one of my favorites because of the tall ceilings and open layout.

The first thing we focused on were all of the finishes. Paint, hardwood color and finish options, and the fireplace design and style.

The primary focus was the color choice for the hardwood stain. Hardwood stain options are constantly changing. After contemplating which route to take, I suggested a lighter beach-wood color with a satin finish. The family recently welcomed a new puppy, and a satin or (better yet) a matte finish is a great way to hide scratches on hardwood floors.

Our next big decision was the color scheme. The client was more drawn to neutral tones with a splash of color. Once our color scheme was agreed on, we took the project to the next level with textures and patterns. It was agreed that we wanted the space to be serene and inviting, with style.

The fireplace was our next verdict. I had given the family two options. An all-stone fireplace or a shiplap fireplace. Shiplap is not timeless. It was in yesterday and out today. It is a gorgeous look, however, we agreed that it would be best to find something that would last throughout the years without wanting to change it again 3-5 years down the line. So we elected ledgerstone (my fav)! A warm colored stone was just what we needed to keep it timeless.

We had decided to keep the actual mantle itself as simple as possible. It’s best to not take any of the attention away from the texture of the stone itself. The straight edged mantle added a cozy touch giving it the perfect-simplistic look we wanted!

Once we had the finishes all figured out, it was time for my favorite part. Decorating! With a dog and two young boys living in the house, it was a no brainer to find materials that suited the family’s needs. A frieze rug pile, a dark colored sofa or sectional, a coffee table with no sharp edges and durable. So many important decisions were needed to be made!

With Christmas season here, and the house neatly decorated, I figured it was the perfect time to start sharing this gem! ♥
