Dressing Up

Dressing up a space is one of my favorite things to do in Design. It’s the finishing touches that complete the look, and make the design most exciting. This client knew exactly what she wanted and the look she was going for, but needed an extra push from a Designer to identify all the right products to create the look she had in mind. During our Design Time on the Laurel and Wolf platform, I pieced this beauty together for her. Inspired by Studio McGee ‘s design and colors for a living room, we made it a priority to find similar items to replicate the style.

Inspiration Images and Existing Pieces

Finding the same items that an inspiration image is showing doesn’t always work. In most cases, the client’s budget is not enough for what the client is looking for, but that doesn’t mean we can’t substitute! As a designer, it’s my job to search and find a similar object that could give off the same idea or the same look that the client is hoping to achieve. Another thing that could potentially get in the way of replicating a look is working around existing pieces. In this case, I had to work around the client’s sofa, floor lamp and end tables. All of which were beautiful pieces to begin with, which made my job so much easier when deciding on how to dress it up.
